Didn't like it. (Spoilers)

It was very predictable. Also, what I find absurd is that after he trained for a few weeks, he managed to beat a professional MMA fighter who trained for years. That's just too unrealistic. There were a few funny scenes, but I expected much more.

Sorry dude, but you lost all credibility talking about MMA with your username

reply

Firstly, the username was created a long time ago, and I would like to change it. Secondly, are you saying that I'm wrong?

reply

Yes you are wrong. First, we have no idea how long his UFC opponent has trained. Second, Randy Couture did very well, very quickly with very little MMA training.

reply

The most unrealistic thing was how out of shape he was. Sure technique and training are a big part, but so is strength, flexibillity, and stamina. So that part did bother me as well, especially since he got his ass handed to him the first 2 rounds.

I agree it would be highly-unlikely that in a few weeks, he'd be ready and able to topple some guy who was a feared fan favorite. Ken Dietrich was tagging this guy for two rounds and crushing him with Superman punches and everything and then all of a sudden out nowhere Voss starts coming back and wins the match. Typical Hollywood ending. Unfortunatley not very believable.

It would have made more sense to have Voss fight valiantly but lose by submission or tap-out. Then have Dietrich come up to him after the fight and tell him how he respected the amount of heart he put into the fight and the respect and support as a positive role model he was getting from the school kids in attendance. Then Dietrich confesses to Voss that he too was once a saxophone player in the high school band and his school suffered similar cuts in the arts program. Then Dietrich donates his check to Voss to save the school. the end.

I thought the same thing, but wouldn't that be predictable as well? (I was thinking about the UFC donating the money instead). In a way, winning was less predictable since it was so predictable (if that makes any sense).

reply

Yes, it would be predictable but I think an audience would appreciate something that doesn't insult their intelligence like a teacher who hasn't wrestled since high school 20 years ago beating a younger and aggressive mma fighter in his prime.

reply

anyone can beat anyone in the ufc by a lucky punch or a mistake like a slip on the mat. so yeah anyone has a slight chance of winning. as for a unpredictable ending, they should of made voss lose the match, and failed at getting the school the money and the movie ends with a unhappy ending.

He trained for the best part of a school year not a few weeks. You could see the wife pregnant and they made references to time passing and the amount of fights hed had. I'm not saying it therefore makes it realistic (not that it needs to be it's just a comedy) but you made a massive error in your timeframe.

Predicatable yes - but also surprisingly more entertaining and funnier than i expected.
