Bill Russell was the GOAT, not Jordan

shareNah. I loved watching Bill play, but he was nowhere near the all-around player MJ was.
There were 8 teams in the NBA then, three times that when MJ played.
Take a time machine and transport a 1987 Jordan to 1965 and Jordan would be the most talked about athlete in the US other than perhaps Mickey Mantle
Jordan was also a drama queen who retired 3 times. Imagine if LeBron did that...haters would be foaming at the mouth at his prima donna attitude toward the game.

shareAnd there were 8 to 14 teams back then, not 30.
And Russell averaged 15 points a game, and shot 44%. Great defender, but don't get carried away.
Russell was more than a great defender. He was never interested in individual stats, only the stat that counted: winning the game. His strength was as a motivator who willed the Celtics to title after title. He always found a way to win when it counted, and he would have done great in today's NBA, adapting himself to today's style of play.
