I didn't read the book so I was surprised when... (spoilers)

her child, Katie, wasn't Alex's baby.

I remembered their kiss at the beginning, so throughout the film I thought, what if they had sex the night of her 18th, which seemed close in time to the school dance, when she had sex with Greg? And then later they figure out that Katie's his child. Now that would've been way too predictable, so I was kinda happy when that didn't happen. But even so, the movie kind of dropped hints that it might be the case. (Rosie tells Alex that Katie reminds her of him probably because she "loves him", the fact that Greg is a douche, she couldn't remember her 18th birthday but Alex does, and then the parallel that Katie likes her best guy friend much like Rosie likes Alex).

Was anyone else surprised when this wasn't revealed to be the case?

At any rate, I really enjoyed the film and felt like it was relateable. I'll definitely re-watch again sometime soon. :)

It would've been fcked up if Alex had tried to have sex with Rosie while she was passed out. To me it always seemed like the kiss was just another missed opportunity, rather than a hint of them doing more.

"What race are you? If you don't tell me I'll just...assume the worst."

That's a very valid point. The kiss stood for the chance for more between them. Like I said, I'm happy the child wasn't his, but I feel like they dropped some hints that implied otherwise...

I agree! Throughout the movie, I was thinking the same thing, and thought thats where the story was going.

It was nice either way, although that kind of renders the whole drama surrounding the 18th bday kind of moot. As in, He was afraid to talk to her about a kiss for 12 years? If they had slept together, I would have understood it maybe more awkward to talk about, but if it was just a kiss, it seems like it would not have been so scary for him to mention it a little sooner lol.

But overall nice and makes it more realistic, not always having the perfect man being the father, but that she can still choose her own path and happy ending despite that!
