Why not take some of the million years before giving it away?

Would anyone seriously not take any when you're minutes away from expiring? Even if they took a year each, that final run for the Timekeeper's time should have been irrelevant.

The film-makers wanted to do something similar from earlier in the movie, when his mother died in his arms.

Makes sense to do the scene again, making the viewer wonder if he was going to get back to her in time.
