Not based on Lee Falk's short story

Some idiot troll managed to sucker IMDB into listing Lee Falk as a writer for this movie. There's no evidence that Niccol ever read Lee Falk's story or based this movie on it.

The plot of "In Time" is VASTLY different from the plot in "Time is Money". The two works only share the "money as currency" idea. This idea had been explored in prior sci fi works, dating to the 50s golden age.

Anyway, here's the plot of "Time is Money" by Lee Falk (from memory).

A drunk(?) man has sex with a prostitute and pays her most of his time. He later forgets how much he paid her, and becomes frantic that he only has an hour or so to live. Much of the "plot" is just him begging strangers like an idiot for more time. He then dies like an idiot.

Yeah, that's it.

Barely even a story. Just an idea, that's FAR better executed in "In Time" and "The Price of Life" short movie.

For In Time, you have the whole immortals "intentionally increasing the cost of living so that the poor keep dying" central plot, the minutemen (thugs) and timekeeper (murder) subplots, the Romeo and Juliet love story, and the rebellion final act.

Lee Falk's "story" is garbage and does not deserve a credit anymore than HG Wells deserves a credit for Falling Skies or Independence Day or any other work that features the alien invasion idea.

In Time has much more in common with "The Price of Life" but there are still vast differences in execution between the two.
