2 hour walk with 1-1/2 hours to run??
You could do that run at a pretty steady slow jog and still make it.

Not to mention a single person on the bus couldn't spare a half hour? That's not even the equivalent of $20, I have a hard time believing every single person there was cool with her timing out over such a small amount
shareWhat is a half hour equivalent to in cash? I made another thread today about this trying to figure it out lol
shareI'm not entirely sure, but considering a bus trip today usually only costs a few dollars, I would say they have some serious inflation issues.
If his car costs 59 years, using your lower $8 million figure, that equals into 1 year being roughly worth $136,000. 24 hours equals $372, so one single hour should roughly equate to $15.
So it would be $30 for a bus ride that covers the distance you can walk in two hours, which isn't that far.
My math could be wrong but hey at least I thought about it more than they did!
you do realize that those people were living in a poor community right? Everyone who lived in the ghetto only has enough time to live day by day, they barely have enough of their own time to survive themselves everyday, so they can't afford to donate much of their time to strangers...1 hour or even 30 mins is probably too much for them to give, everyone is barely surviving with their own time in the ghetto, everyone is worried about their own survival.
shareAt the same time, 1 minute each would have done the trick. But when you think about it, it's probably no different than you not giving money to a bum in the streets, even if he really wanted to use that money to eat and not to drink. So I have no problems believing that these people just didn't care about what happened to her.

It seemed like most people were only scraping by with what they had, so they couldn't afford to give it away.
If that sort of thing happened every day (people running out of time and asking strangers to give them some) people would soon get hardened to it and ignore it.

There are only four people in this world I would give, either my life for, or minutes of my life. And I gave birth to all four of them.
shareI get your point of view but because they live in the ghetto most are in urgent need for time but if they started giving even a minute to everyone. They'd end up in the exact situation like the people they tried to help
shareYou forgot that it's the ghetto. Nobody walks there. That 2 hour "walk" is actually 2 hour jog or run.
shareAverage human walk speed = 3mph.
Average human run speed = 15mph.
She could have got there in under an hour no problem, even with breaks.
An average human does NOT run 15 mph. That would be a 4 minutes mile, which is reserved for the elite runners. And THEY couldn't keep that pace for 1 hour. I'm going to guess that an in shape 25 year old can run for an hour about 8-10 miles
shareHere's the math:
A slow walk is 30 minutes per mile (2 mph). If it's a 2 hour walk that would make it 4 miles.
A medium walk is 20 minutes per mile (3 mph). That would make it 6 miles.
A fast walk is 15 minutes per mile (4 mph). That's what I do at the gym on the treadmill, and would make it 8 miles.
A slow jog is 10 minutes per mile (6 mph). Even a slow jogger could cover 9 miles in an hour and a half.
A medium jog is 8 minutes per mile (7.5 mph), not that hard for a fit 25-year-old when your life depends on it. In an hour and a half, that would be 11.25 miles.
A fit runner (non-competitive) can do 6 minutes per mile (10 mph), or 15 miles in an hour and a half.
Now assuming she's a very fast walker, she would also probably be a fast runner as well.
There's no case where you couldn't cover a 2 hour walk in 90 minutes.
