Bringing back Andy made the show worse

I realized this after watching some old Conan clips. Almost all my favourite memories about the Late Night Show involve Max Weinberg and Joel Godard. I don't know why, but Max's character just cracks me up. His deadpan delivery with Conan was always amusing.

Andy is like the less funny Conan. I rather have Conan alone.

Andy is a crappy announcer it sounds like hes holding his nose but I love Andy on the show i like the Memba this segment, Andy life hacks,His little sister tons of sketches that Andy did over the years. They have good chemistry together and sometimes Andy makes things funnier. Since Andy came back Conan really doesn't pay much attention to the band even though Jimmy doesn't say much. I wish they would have Joe pre record the intro from NYC and they could use it. I think Craig Ferguson show did that with Shadoe Stevens.

You're wrong, Andy is great.

Agreed... Andy is great for the show.

Seems that if you say bad things about Andy on this board you get beat up, but I'm going to say my piece anyway.

I think Conan hit his stride when Andy left Late Night and Conan was on his own. Conan ended up working more with Max and Joel, and he also used his guests in bits also. To me I never found Andy funny, and I always saw the interaction between Andy and Conan awkward - I never noticed chemistry.

When Conan has the Tonight Show, I was actually a little disappointed that Andy was part of it because not only was their no Joel, but there would be less interaction with Max. Part of me thinks that Conans TTS failed in part because Andy was a drag on Conan's humor.

I look at Andy now and to me he comes off as someone who is bitter and angry with the fact that he has to be an announcer - second fiddle if you will - to Conan. That Andy left Conan back when to make it on his own and he bombed, and he is now stuck in the only place that would have him - Andy seems very unhappy.

All that being said, I don't hate Andy. I just don't think he is suited as a sidekick, and he is definitely not a natural announcer. Perhaps a writer or something behind the camera, but to me he is not doing himself of the show any favors where he is now.

Sorry, but as someone who has watch Conan since 1993 through all iterations of all of his shows, that's my take on Andy.

I love Andy as a sidekick. He has fantastic banter with guests. How can you not like Andy?!

Complainy-pants whiners who probably got into the show after Andy left in 2000. No disrespect to the 2000-2009 Andy-less era but the Andy years of LNwCOB were definitely the best years of the show. Not just because of the Conan/Andy dynamic but the sketches themselves were at their silly/absurd/craziest in those original years. I mean the time Conan did Late Night it was all pretty crazy really, but especially in the 90s when they figured nobody was watching other than his devoted cult audience and they just did whatever the hell they wanted. The show got a bit more mainstream after Andy left and they slowly started cutting back on the crazy antics.

I agree 100 percent... the stuff they did was just legendary. Remember their staring contests? So silly it was genius. You know the NBC execs hated stuff like that, but Conan and Andy didn't care.

My dream is for every episode of the show to be available online. The world deserves this.

Than it was great, now it just feels awkward because Andy had to come back to work for Conan.

This couldn't be more true. Conan did much of his best work without Andy. Like you I loved the Max/Joel stuff. They were hilarious and not overdone. Conan tries a bit too hard with Andy around. And following Andy on twitter is quite eye opening. He is so nasty on there and so political. It has changed my whole view about him.
