Terrifying doesn't even really cover it. Since I was a little kid, as far back as I can remember, the majority of my dreams were always nightmares. Long, intricate, realistic ones. So I would say that I don't scare with that sort of thing easily. But it's completely different when you KNOW you are awake. The fear is intensified if you have had realistic nightmares and tried tricks to remind yourself that you are dreaming, like counting or repeating phrases, etc.... and trying those tricks during sleep paralysis only to realize they're not working and you're actually awake. I didn't sleep for days afterward because I was scared that it would happen again. I was so messed up, I was afraid that any moment my hallucination would start back up. Mine involved a man trying to kill me. I'm of the understanding that while the hallucinations differ in small ways, all have similar elements. I'd rather not go into mine more, but if you've researched it, I'm sure you get the gist.
