Explain please..

It was a shared hallucination between a father and daughter, which the father had first had as a boy when his father attacked his mother, and ended up dying (while the boy and his mother watched on).

Watch it again with that in mind and everything should iron out.










'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings.

There was no ghost. Traumatized by his father trying to kidnap him and and dying in front of him, Clive Owen was haunted as a child by a "hollow face" which was his father but he didn't know as he denied everything happened. He wrote a story about this ghost which only existed in his mind and hid the story in the tree, which psychologically freed him from the ghost.

Years later, his daughter finds the story, and Clive Owen see his coworker dying the same way as his father. The death brought the trauma back to him, and because of the deep link he has with his daughter, it was transfered to her. It was explained by the doctor as a "folie à deux", french which basically means "shared hallucination".

At the end, Clive Owen finally accept that everything was in his head, but transfered to her daughter, so he decides to finish the story, thus killed the ghost.
