6.6?

I feel like this movie should be at least a 7 not a 6.6. Does anyone else think this score is too low.

reply

Yes!

Glad to see it's not only me.

I'm surprised this bag of horse crap is rated that high. This movie was painful to watch.

If Crazy, Stupid, Love can get 7.5, this at least deserves a 7!

You're absolutely right it is useless to argue with you. You're obviously the cinematic authority on all things film to think I could be as smart as you... but alas I'm just a mindless monkey.

I haven't seen this film, but I have seen Ted, the Hangover and Horrible Bosses, which are similar brands of comedy, and I loved all three. I'm almost 17. I'm also into Korean cinema, particularly Kim Ki-Duk, as well as Italian cinema, of which Fellini's 8 1/2 is in my top ten films, and on top of this my favourite director is probably Michael Haneke. Funny Games is one of the best films of all time. And in terms of American cinema, the last film I saw was PTA's the Master, which I give 10/10 and I think seriously advances cinema as an art form with it's refusal to conform to narrative norms and it's unflinching, almost hollow style.

So to address your point, these kinds of films, and your kind of films, are not mutually exclusive. I would reference Pauline Kael's great art/great trash quote but that isn't even relevant, because in my eyes neither of these varieties are trash, and both are as valid as each other.

But of course, you're completely right, right? Or is it not like you care?

I just saw for the first time last night. I'm turning 23 in the summer and I cried my eyes out..
This seems like a movie people either love or hate.

reply

Nah, the movie was too formula to get a better rating. It seemed constructed from every angle.

If this movie get's more than 7, they can close IMDB. And i didn't hate the movie.

Personally, I really enjoyed the movie, which is why I watch movies in the first place...so result!

I'm not 13, I'm educated & I'm male, which is why I couldn't care less what derogatory comments other posters make, I enjoyed it, job done :)

Nah, that seems about right, if a little high. In fact it has the very same IMDb average as Sordid Lives--a movie that had a much lower budget, but I enjoyed a lot more.

The First Wives Club only has a 5.7, but it's a little over-the-top, and with that movie one must factor in the typical IMDb sexism curve.

I hate to admit it, but the movie's all right. I don't very much care for this kind of movie, and thought from previews that it would be terrible. People talk about it being formulaic, and it is, but the movie itself points this out. It takes the sting out a bit. It's well timed, well acted, and well directed for a romantic comedy.

Now, I'm not sure that this movie deserves higher than a 6.6 or if there are other movies rated higher that deserve less. Oddly enough, Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 71% and an audience score of 66 (6.6 out of 10). It's certainly not high art. Herein lies the problem.

I hate to see people immediately come out and yell that this is trash, when it certainly is not. Sure, it's no highbrow drama. That doesn't mean that the genre of romantic comedy is any less a valid film. Of the romantic comedies I've seen lately (I must admit, I don't watch all that many) this is definitely one of the better ones.

It's all very subjective anyway, but I sort of dismiss that argument. Of course it's subjective but the point of discussing and reviewing or being a critic is to make your subjective opinions known. The fact that they are your opinion is completely objective, even if the opinion itself is not. Everyone understands that when someone says a movie is good or bad that is their opinion, there's no need to point that (therefore no need for my last paragraph).

I think I digressed from the point.

I liked this movie. I guess... That makes me 11 years younger than my actual age, but reading that makes me feel endearing. Thank you for calling me among the others 13 years old, I don't find it offensive at all. People already say I look about that old; in fact I get second looks for bouncers and bartenders when I get carded.

I'm sorry, but people who have to nitpick at of all things, movies kind've make me feel bad. If that was the case, you should take that special skill in good use. Maybe put it towards a career. Y'know... So you can make a living off of it.

It's a good decent comedy movie. It's cliche but almost anything is now. Just enjoy it. If you don't like it, move on.

And Mila Kunis is fcking sexy. Maybe that's why I like this movie.

IMDB is nothing but criticism. Expect it.
