shareI'm with Louis only in the sense that if the birth father had died or something and won't ever be in the picture during this kid's life.
Who's sperm is it don't matter to me, it's all luck of the draw anyway in terms of genetics. But for sure it will be me who will bestow upon the child my values and experiences and he/she will grow up under my influence and will no doubt grow up to be either my success or failure. Not some other dude.
But if the birth father is still in play. Then I can't control what he will do and what the woman will do knowing the guy is very much still in the picture. You're just asking for trouble in that case if you want to "butt in" just because you love the woman so much.
