Cringeworthy writing is cringeworthy.

"I'm Donna and I'm awesome"
"If you're my friend you'll never ask me about it again"

Are you serious? I can kind of see Kevin's line being ok because it's prison and all but come on.

Who put you in charge of telling me what to do with my time? I chose to do what I did so back off.

You should have said,
"What do you mean, who put you in charge of telling me what to do with my goddamn time? I chose to do what I did, so back the hell off - Louis"
Louis: :"OP, that's *beep*
OP: "Louis, keep that up if you want to *beep* the bed, but get out of my goddamn way, and I'll post whatever the goddamn hell I want to post."
Donna: "I'm awesome"
Jessica: "You *beep* the bed when you brought that goddamn fraud Mike Ross into my house"
goddamn Mike Ross: "I have a photographic memory"
*Rachel cries*

reply

This made me laugh out loud. You could easily step in and write for this show, that's exactly how they talk.

reply

No OP is justified in complaining that was a pretty dumbass line only people completely up Donna's ass tolerate her character anymore.

Dude. I pray every night that I could be up Donna's ass for REAL!

Are you an SJW ? If so, please kill yourself immediately! Thanks

well consider me completely up Donna's ass because there's no other place i'd rather be

I didn't get the memo that you can only post positive comments about the show. I mostly like Suits, but Donna's "I'm awesome" comment made me cringe too, and the whole Mike in prison thing is meh to me. Unless Mike actually does become a lawyer, this show is toast. And yes, you can be a felon and then become a lawyer in New York. You do have to show you're rehabilitated to get admission to the bar though. This guy got a 25 year sentence for attempted murder, but was still admitted to the NY Bar . . . eventually:

http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2007/03/08/new-york-sets-a-high-bar-for-convicted-felon/

reply

You mean Mike still isn't a lawyer? I'm on season 2 and already fed up with this idiocy - it makes no sense why he, harvey or jessica would risk the firm and it's reputation like this. Even if he's not havard qualified surely anything is better than this obvious fraud? And the guy can be such a self-righteous tool at times too.

So he's in prison now? Yet another a good opportunity to get qualified.....

reply

Mike's a felon now, so while not impossible, it becomes much more difficult to gain admittance to a bar. And it would also be harder for him to gain admission to a top flight law school. In season 6, Mike was only in jail for like a month, so not enough time to start, much less finish, law school. I like the show, but yeah, you do have to suspend reality, but that's no different than the crappy science in Bones, which I also enjoy.

reply

Ya know what you just wrote there? Your opinion just the same as the other guys.

SJW queef

reply

I love your binary thinking. IF you watch it, you have to love everything about it and not complain or comment about anything. IF you find problems with it, just change the channel and keep your mouth shut. Nice

So you see your neighbor's 9 yr old smoke something, maybe a cigarette or maybe some MJ.

According to your logic, I should just look away (change the channel) and keep my mouth shut about it. If I choose to watch the kid, seeing him smoke, I shouldn't say ANYTHING about it and just keep giving my neighbor with the hello wave of approval.

reply

Then don't read. Even better, don't waste your time and energy posting about it. No one's forcing you to do either. You're the one choosing both.

Here's something to ponder: stupid twaats who complain about people complaining about a show on a forum that is precisely designed for the express purpose of people sharing their opinions, good and bad, about the shows they watch.

Maybe it has more to do about the person than the comment about which they're currently complaining.

*beep* a$$hats who want to control every *beep* conversation on the internet. Don't like the comment, then don't *beep* read it.

reply

That title was cringeworthy. It's either "Cringeworthy writing" or Writing is cringeworthy" not "cringeworthy writing is cringeworthy"...

reply

it's a deliberate play on the structure of the statement to emphasize the subject of how 'cringe-worthy' the writing is.. it is another way to say, 'the lines in the Suits are cringe-worthy; however in recent episodes, they have become even more so'.

People employ this technique all the time.. For example, referring to a foul that you just witnessed in a football game, one could say,

'Obvious foul is obvious'

indicating that the player's attempt at committing a foul was rather embarrassingly conspicuous as against being slick..

reply

You don't watch Suits for good plots or writing. You watch it to see certain actors ham it up something fierce (Harvey, Jessica, Donna, Louis, etc).

Both lines are bad, but the second one is far worse. The first one is actually good in a way that is so bad it is good. It's super hammy. Though it should ideally just be "I'm Donna". They dropped the ball there.

reply

Thank you for the intelligent reply. I agree the fierce factor was a major strong point and it's disappointing to see its absence this season. But part of the fierce factor comes along with great writing that was present in the first 4 seasons and season 5B, so no, the new writers will have to get it together before the show loses majority viewership.

reply

The writing has never really been that good. Though I would agree that it's worse this season. The dramatic elements are always the worst part though in other seasons, but this prison plot has been way worse for some reason. It somehow feels like the easiest way to have forced dramatic tension, when they've always had forced dramatic tension.

That said the line was bad, but it wasn't far off from being the writing you expect from this show from the earlier seasons IMO. It's been said before that less is more, and it is true for this instance as well. The line is already implying she is awesome, you don't need to actually spell it out by actually saying it. That detracts from the attempt at humor and just becomes unfunny and cringe worthy.

reply

Boy am I glad some sensible people finally started replying to this thread. I completely agree, although I have to say many episodes in the past have left on a very high note. Also the last point you mentioned is literally what I wanted people to understand. As of now it seems like there a lot of adolescents watching and they're always going to give the show ultimate praise, causing Suits to air for a god awful number of following seasons.

reply

I agree. Bad writing is something this show has consistently had, especially in the dialogue department. The whole "I'm Donna" thing has been a staple from the very start of the show, along with weird illogical lines that are meant to sound threatening or kickass but just sound repetitive, circular, and hollow after six seasons of the same sh-t.

The only reason people are getting tired of it now and pointing it out is because the show hasn't changed its formula and relies *more* on these half-assed lines and half assed characters. But the earlier seasons also came w their host of writing issues like the forced swearing which became sooo cringeworthy.

ETA; also your last line is spot on and Suits is doing this more and more often where it tells rather than shows. Ie: when Harvey and Louis were bonding and instead if leaving it as that, they had to actually say "actions speak louder than words". That was so embarrassing bc yes we know that and we could already SEE it, why tf would they actually use a cliched statement like that?
Or the wood convo that went on for too long. The joke was funny before Donna kept asking for more. This show doesn't know how to handle humor and goes for the overkill when it does have a good joke by making a character point out how good a joke it was

A rose is just a rose.

reply

The writing justifies Donna's character, it's not hard to under stand. The writing is very good and keeps everyone entertain for those who don't nitpick a line here and there.

Don't get hurt kid. I'm not your daddy, I'll beat you senseless.

reply

I was going to post the exact same thing right after finishing the episode. This cheesy and and times just plainly ridiculous writing skyrocketed this last episode.

"I'm Donna..." *cringes*
"... And I'm awesome" *looks away from screen because can't take it anymore*
Donna takes a basketball and shoots in the hoop, does a 90 degree spin and tries to look bad-as *physically in pain*

reply

Hahahaha! You just nailed my reaction to that scene. I think it's funny how people are actually saying that was "funny" or "cool" because she's Donna.

I feel they've made Donna's character the Guardian Angel this season. Honestly, who's problems has she not got involved into and solved? She might as well kick off Jessica from the throne and run things.

reply

Yh it was bad felt like watching one them disney tv shows for kids just was trying to hard to act cool.

reply

I'm agreeing with you and OP, it was cringeworthy. I don't especially mind Kevin, but Donna was over the top.
the shows often uses her as a lite-Dues Ex Machina when it gets itself stuck or needs to fill up an episode, and I usually don't mind too much. But now it was accompagnied by that terrible line. there were one or two other instances where I also kinda felt like... girl, calm the *beep* down.

otherwise, I sorta didn't mind this season, different, but good.

reply

It's this part of her character that i cannot stand. One of my fav scenes is the one in the bathroom (i think it's season 2 or 3) where Jessica puts her firmly back in her place. It's a shame we don't have more like that.

reply

They overplay a once good idea in a a office samaritan who can always help.Donna was fine at the beginning.

But its now so exagerated that there is even no comic relief anymore. She knows every secret from every person in New York now and all the worlds most coolest locations...etc.
She knows all about love, is wise as Heraklit and had deep deep personal experience in every possible field.

Have to say S6 kills all people with boring plots and dialog

Mike and prison booooring

Harvey with Sutter and prison also booring

Rachel and JEssica. Please the classic spoiled brat murder trial case to show of against the bad injustice system and feel good about herself. Kindergarden level with dialog borderlining retardation

Luis and his love affair. Again like a 12year old with his first love plus money and overexageration.

Sadly there is no elegance anymore.

reply

You basically summed up exactly what I was feeling. Awesome!

reply

your welcome 😀

reply

People who use the term 'cringeworthy' are cringe inducing.

reply

Tough luck. No one's going to change for you.

reply

Funny how that works, the writers aren't going to change for you either. Tough luck.

reply

Funny how that works, they can air their *beep* with the 3 viewers they have then. Tough luck.

reply

Not my problem, go tell them that if you'd like sweetheart.

reply

I'll go do that babe. See you :*

reply

Thankfully I just finished cooking my breakfast, eggs can use some of that salt from you.

reply

Haha what salt? Aw wait, did you get hurt by anything I said?

reply

Weird, for a moment there I thought I was talking to myself, all your responses have just been copy pastes.

Anyways, breakfast is done, thanks for the salt, I enjoyed tickling your rage button, but before I bring myself down anymore towards your level, I'm going to move on and ignore this post :). Enjoy your afternoon!

Feel free to respond, maybe someone will think you're cool making an edgy response to someone that will never read it. PS: I hit the ignore button for you <3

reply

Alright child, whatever you say! Have a good life!
