Not a bad film, but hard to enjoy it after seeing Source Code just a few years ago. If I had never seen Source Code, Edge of Tomorrow would have been much more enjoyable (although it suffers from too much CGI, like so many action films these days). Whoever originally developed the story for Source Code must have felt ripped off.
I don't get your comparison to Source Code. Source Code is not the first movie to do reboots/rewinds on the time so don't pretend that Source Code is original. The ideas came from "Ground Hog Day".
And the two movies aren't even similar on the plot. "Source Code" is more of a detective style movie while the other is a pure Science Fiction alien invasion movie.
What was the cause of the time loops in Goundhog Day? As I recall, there was never any explanation. The looping just happened. But in both Source Code and Edge of Tomorrow, an explanation for the time loops was offered, and the protagonists used technology to take advantage of the looping.
Groundhog Day was basically a sappy romantic comedy with a science fiction/fantasy twist, wherease Source Code and Edge of Tomorrow were more science fiction action thrillers.
Source Code and War of the Worlds are both fairly recent films, and they still look fresh. Groundhog Day is getting long in tooth at this point, and it definitely shows in the style of the film. It's from a different generation of cinematography.
Anyway, I never meant to imply that time looping had never been used in film before. My point was that Edge of Tomorrow had enough similar elements to Source Code (and War of the Worlds) that it felt derivative in a not-good way.
WARNING TO READERS: This response includes spoilers for "Groundhog Day"
There is NOTHING about the manner in which Cage in "Edge of Tomorrow" acted that is similar to Colter Stevens in "Source Code". While the personality of Cage followed the methodology of Phil in Groundhog Day very closely. Cage was finding out details about his coworkers and used it to his benefit during the movie and especially in the finale. This is precisely what Phil constantly did non-stop in "Groundhog Day". Stephens NEVER did this in "Source Code" except to a small degree with Christina. While "Edge of Tomorrow" adds humor in multiple scenes of the movie you aren't going to find any humor in "Source Code".

Even though 6AM triggered the loop in "Groundhog Day", it also was essentially triggered every time he killed himself (numerous times) which matches both "Source Code" and "Edge of Tomorrow".

Well many people think "Source Code" has a "sappy" romance as well. "Groundhog Day" can use the release date and Comedy as an excuse. At least "Edge of Tomorrow" didn't go there. "Source Code" is a detective movie with a dead guy's brain effectively being used as a CPU with dead people (or people in an Alternate Universe if you choose to believe) in the loop. "Edge of Tomorrow" is a Science Fiction movie with living people repeating in a loop exactly like "Groundhog Day".

"Groundhog Day" may have aged, but it is STILL the source of the writing - NOT "Source Code". Your favored movie is NOT any more original writing material than this "Edge of Tomorrow". There is no need for you to get upset because another movie just happens to use the same source material as your movie. You can continue being a fanboy if you want but it won't change facts.
All three movies are good to me and different from each other.

If u said so, that mean Source Code copied "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006). haha..

In Source Code he went into a different parallel universe/dimension each time. That's why there were always some things slightly different on each "run". And that's why he was able to continue in that other dimension when she "unplugged" (or should I say: untethered) him in the original one.
Groundhog Day had Bill Murray repeat the exact same day over and over.
And in Edge of Tomorrow it was similar, but not only Tom Cruise but also the enemy retained their memory.
