The ONE saving grace in this mess... BRENT SPINER!

The guy is such a superb actor. They were very wise to expand his role in this film.

The old cast was actually quite good and gave it their all.

The new cast (Will Smith’s mini-me, Diet Thor and the fashion model) could ALL have been replaced with actual cardboard cut-outs and it wouldn’t have changed the movie at all. They all came across as shallow and soulless.

Jeff Goldblum delivered as usual and, again, Brent Spiner was a true treat. Those two single-handedly engineered any saving graces this film does manage to deliver.

The movie itself is so asinine and repetitively dull that it’s hard to enjoy as even pure popcorn fluff. Still, it was great to se Spiner shine.

I thought Bill Pullman did a nice job too.

I don't agree. His gimmick was lame. The jokes were flat and I think he was lame on his actions. The lazer, the butt, the comments. All so lame.

I thought most of the adult cast did a good job (Goldblum, Pullman, Hirsch, Fichtner, Oparei, Gainsbourg) miles, miles ahead of the younger ones.
Hemsworth was decent and Maika was not bad. The rest, were just terrible.
Spiner, as much as I was happy to see him appear in this film, came off way OTT and most of his scenes weren't very funny. He seemed to be the comic relief of this movie and it was too much at times.

I don't know why its so hard to connect to younger actors nowadays, they just seem very anemic and lifeless. They lack the humanity and emotions as older actors from previous eras.

Sure, the script didn't helped much either.

Very true. Brent needs a better agent. He's too good for stuff like this crap. Give him REAL roles.

They need to Data up the new Star Trek movie series. That franchise is already instantly stale.

I think Spiner needs a good TV show were he plays the main character or one of the main characters. Outcast is decent but I don't think it will last long.
But to be fair, it was really not the fault of the cast that this movie turned out so bad. Goldblum, Fichtner, Pullman, Gainsbourg... all really good actors, but they can't save a movie like that, nobody can, as an actor you're really lost in a mess like that.

Goldblum looked very uninterested. His performance was nothing compared to how it was in the first movie. He was a BOSS in the first Independence Day.
