Isn't It Sad And Depressing...

It pains to see this sequel did not live up to its expectations.ID4 was one of the most enjoyable movies ever and can hold on its own even today. But ID:R will soon b forgotten.
I sure was looking forward to this...and I was actually enjoying the initial half hour of the movie.But...my god!!...all the new actors where cringeworthy...action was pointless...the aliens where useless...
There was neither any excitement or fear that could be felt while watching this.

Is it that hard to make a movie grounded in its own reality....

I left the theatre with a really heavy heart...

reply

I second that!

reply

Agreed. My thought as I walked out of the theater was 'well there's $9 and 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back.' Bummer! I LOVED the original and really wanted to love this one.

What I find funny is that id4 came out it was regarded as horrible american propaganda movie, and now that there's sequel, the first movie is suddenly good

reply

Yeah, I found that funny too...

reply

That maybe true...but when I watched ID4 it was when they had it as a premiere in TV and quite frankly it was the best action movie I have seen. And since the movie has stood the test of time I'm sure atleast some of the people who would have discredited it then slowly saw it in better light later on and that's why the overall expectations were sky high.

Here it was done by the same director...with almost the same cast..but still it failed to capture the magic of the first one...
And the thing is the ID storyline has always been ripe...earth after a brutal and devastating alien war...they could have taken us anywhere...but what we got is far less...

Sigh!

Exactly how I felt. The first 30mins was actually good, the plot is in my opinion very clever. To have another alien race come in contact with earth, then getting humans involved in intergalactic war. That's exciting. However the execution was really bad.

I mean, everything happened too fast. Alien ship appears, near the moon, shoots at defense system immediately, then is already on earth, then it lands. Buildings go up then down.

In the first film the whole process took time, you felt the drama, the suspense.

Also on special effects, in the first film, all fighter jet action felt real. As if these are real ships flying, they had weight and power. In this it all just felt soft and smooth.

Also I hate how they brought back the scientist guy, he wasn't even integral to the original plot yet in this one he drives a big part of the story and gets the last line.

reply

You are right...The movie was good initially.I enjoyed it till the Harvester landed on earth...but even still I had to forcefully ignore the *beep* acting by the newcomers.

reply

An utterly pointless and unnecessary sequel.

... gets me down, too, especially the brutal misuse of Hirsch, who is a top-notch actor, and here again he's reduced to a narcissistic bumbler with a proverbial heart of gold ("Oi! He iz zo goot vit der Kinder!"). The character is too "comically" to be really funny and his "misadventure" scene of trying to dock the boat as all the bad stuff is making its way across the water toward him was not funny, not scary, and like the film itself, pointless...
