Did he actually film his cameo, because he looked pretty artificial to me. Couldn't tell for sure, but it felt like a CG recreation. Robo Loggia?

I'm pretty sure it was him, though sadly I'm not entirely certain he was aware he was being filmed.
IMDb-boards would be less confusing if people would mark their signatures clearly.
Yeah, from the look of him, I was pretty sure his face had been mapped onto someone else -- the fact he was still alive when it was filmed doesn't mean he was actually well enough to be physically on-set -- but people have insisted it was him.
I haven't listened to Emmerich's commentary on the Blu-ray yet; I'll have to see if he sheds any light on it.
