Why was the CGI so bad? Terminator Genisys had much better CGI

This movie almost had 400 million dollars, Terminator Genysis 155!!!

In T5 most of the background scenes were either completly green screen or rendered. Some of the scenes I was baffled just how real they looked, especially the 84 segment (backgrounds). Sure the CGI looks better compared to the 96 movie, but that's a given. The problem is that the 96 feels and acts like a real movie where this one feels like they shot the entire movie inside a studio with the crappy CGI they could find.

But in this movie most of the backgrounds we're clearly green screen. How come a 400 million dollar movie looks so bad, what happened? Every friggin scene that's blurry is fake. My god this is almost on asylum level.

Look at Riddick 2013, entire movie green screen yet it's effects are way way better then this one.

Too bad it's true.

The desert scene in independence day 2 is on asylum levels of bad. The blur in the background screens green screen.

For a movie about spaceships and aliens, I thought the CGI was pretty good. Not sure what all this "green screen" mockery is all about. Sure, the movie didn't have steller storytelling, but I don't think it was as bad as most people make it out to be.

The green screen looks particularly garish in the post-battle celebration scene because it looks so phony compared to the similar end scene from the original film, which actually was photographed in the desert. It really is that distracting.

I also thought that the CGI looked pretty bad, sometimes even worse than the first film.

Everything is Green/Blue-screened now.

So much that I was shocked when I found out how many real sets were actually built for X-Men Age of Apocalypse.
