Suffers from JJ Abrahms syndrome, and it failed....

Everything overblown and super exaggerated, 3K mile wide ship, a last minute Saviour [that oddly looked like the head of the robot from Hitchhiker Guide to the Galaxy] .... Giant Queen? Pfffft

It felt like a SyFy ripoff movie made by The Asylum... I guess what worked in '96 doesn't 20 years later.

I'm so glad that someone else noticed how the sphere thing looked like Marvin! As for the film itself, I had heard such awful things beforehand that by the time I got around to watching it my expectations were so low that I actually enjoyed it. It felt like a cheesy 90's sci fi disaster film. The special effects were terrible sometimes, Brent Spiner made me cringe every time gen was on screen, but it was just a big dumb film that didn't take itself seriously.

JJ Abrams movies have well written scripts and great character development. All this has is good special effects. Don't be so easily confused.

Cardboard Box is the Future.
