Randy Quaid saved earth NOT will smith

not even a single plac dedicated to him. And his kids are nowhere in this movie. Shameful!

Randy quaid was important, but could not have had any effect whatsoever if Smith and Goldblum hadn't first brought down the alien shields. Therefore his contribution was secondary to theirs. He brought down one ship, Smith and Goldblum made it possible to destroy ALL the ships.

reply

Yeah, seeing as how he gave his life to destroy the first ship, I think a statue at Area 51 would been appropriate.

I just assume that after the first film, Quaid's kids are now wandering the backroads of the country, not even given any form of reward or recognition for their father's sacrifice.

It's like the one soldier in the group of men who raised the flag at Iwo Jima, and almost noone gave him credit in the picture (they claimed it was someone else).

He's been blackwashed.

must be part of Quaid's Starwhacking theory, trying to erase any evidence he ever existed.

I read an article by a reporter who interviewed Randy and Evi and it left me feeling rather sorry for the poor man. It sounds like she took advantage of him, and now he's so wrapped up in all her crazy he's totally lost to reason.

His words-

“My accountant, he sent me a letter behind Evi’s back. He said, Your wife is spending so much money—she’s gonna drag you into the poorhouse! They were trying to separate us, divide us, and it really affected me. Like I started looking at Evi sideways, like, This bitch. Yeah, Evi was going into Hermès; she was going into all the stores, Chanel—the whole deal—but now I know if you total up the bills they’re just a little fraction of what I was capable of paying for. I was making enough money for me to comfortably support Evi and her shopping.

“They wanted to separate us,” said Quaid, “because Evi is very intuitive and very smart. She’s the smartest person I know. You can call her crazy, you can call her whatever you want, but she is my lifeline, and if she wasn’t with me, I don’t know where I’d be.”

I was really hoping former President Whitmore was going to justify flying the decoy mission with "not gonna let some crazy cropduster steal the glory this time" :)

reply

Agreed. Smith actually did very, very little in the first film. Quaid discovered how to destroy the first ship, and Goldblum is the one who wrote/uploaded the virus. Literally all Smith did was fly the ship, which is something that probably literally thousands of Americans could have done (let alone people in other countries).

Would've been nice to at least reference them as great heroes, but it seems that Smith, his son and the former president get all the glory.

I hated how he and his family weren't mentioned at all in this movie. It was a pretty big gaping hole. Everyone else was either in it or at least got a mention. Then I felt like those kids with their dog were supposed to fill in for them so they annoyed me even more.

The same could have been said for David's ex-wife, Constance Spano. The last we ever saw of her was in ID4 where she was hugging him, and it looked like they were getting back together...and here, not a single word about her.

Plus, the only reference to Quaid's character is in the opening, where we see his name engraved ten's of feet up on the rebuilt Washington Monument...WHERE NO NORMAL PERSON CAN SEE IT!!!

In fact, that scene goes by so fast, I only caught his name for a split-second before we cut to the Presidential heli-hover thingy.
