Those guys out on the boat. What purpose did that serve? Who where they? Went way over my head.
Well they were close to the alien drill and could detect how far towards the core they were and alert others.
I was being patient but it took too long.
They were like those two dopes in Into the Storm.
Same idea.
It was a very poor attempt to build up tension, like showing the timer ticking down on a bomb. 'You have 2 minutes before the Earth's core is breached!'
Now...how in the world would pirates on a little boat floating say 10,000 feet above the ocean floor be able to monitor drilling some 20 miles below them? And we're supposed to believe their ham radio has a perfectly clear connection with the US military halfway around the world? Meanwhile, wouldn't this hole be filling with water, sucking them down in the process??
