This movie was shocklingy good.
It's not perfect obviously but it was everything I expected and wanted from the trailers and set up some actually interesting sequel material.

Disagree. I really wanted to like it but was really disappointed. It was silly and boring and cheesy.
shareOther than boring how is it different from the trailer or the first film?

I think I only saw the trailer once so I don't know about that but from the first movie, the characters were not likeable. I didn't care who lived or died. No suspense, no fun. I remember watching the first movie on the edge of my seat when they started blowing the buildings up, watching the fire roll through the streets and waiting for the characters to escape in the knick if time was a thrill. The destruction was on a bigger scale in the sequel but lost the human element in the process. It was just like watching buildings and cars get destroyed without experiencing what the people inside were feeling.
I also felt the storyline was lame with wasted screen time on boring characters that added nothing like the dad driving around a bus full of children. In the first movie that man came up with the plan to save the world. I think that was trying to copy the family scenes that had Randy Quaid but he also ended up saving the
world.
Also lacked the humour of the first film.
I could not agree more, Agent_Smoulder! They took what happened in 1996 and truly expanded that world in such an interesting way! It was a blast hanging with the old characters again and I really enjoyed the new ones too! Overall, it exceeded my expectations and I can't get enough of this movie!
Who's strangling the cat?
I agree with a lot of what you and Smoulder have said, Junkie, but I can't agree about the new characters. They were badly drawn, badly developed and badly acted. For me, the second sequel is significantly lacking in appeal because (judging from the poster) it'll mostly be about those dull little histrionic puppets.
You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

It really wasn't, it failed at everything that made the first one entertaining. Biggest problem was of course the characters and casting in general, but pacing was way off too. The first one was campy in a funny way, this one seemed unintentional.
