So isn't the Harvester ship attacking Earth, not just the US? So how is it that both times it attacked, it just HAPPENED to have fallen on July 4?

I think it's corny. Call the film Independence Day all you want, but everything doesn't HAVE to happen on the 4th of July.

This movie was astonishingly corny. Perhaps they got a huge budget because it was essentially propaganda, so they made the movie as silly as possible so that nobody could take it seriously? This is a really bad movie, even for the guy who directed 2012 and 10,000 BC.
