Jesus, this movie is a disrespect to the first one

- Vivica A. Fox killed 3 scenes in - in a horrible death - just to save some random mother and baby, leaving us with her underdeveloped son.

- President Whitmore dying for ALMOST NOTHING. If he at least had killed the queen... all his sacrifice did was to expose her, any douche could have done that.

- Little or no time for developing the new characters (including the old ones played by grown up actors) - didn't care about any of them.

- Characters jumping from place to place as fast as a fart without any explanation.

- Ridiculous new president who dies offscreen and does nothing at all except give bad orders. However it was hilarious that the aliens killed the entire presidency leaving the job to a general.

- Ridiculous subplot of Earth's core being saved in the last second - so cliche...

- Ridiculous subplot of killing the queen = the ships die/run away (in the first one it happened because they destroyed the mothership that had connections to the other small ships, so it made sense that they died and fell, it WASN'T because they killed the first queen).

- Generic score. Where is David Arnold????

- Incredibly the CGI from 1996 seems better than here. Also, I hated how they just gave up on prosthetics and animatronics in favor of 100% CGI, including the aliens.

This movie is the EXACT opposite of what they did in the first one. ID4 had so many great characters, we cared about most of them all, a great story that wasn't rushed and actually had a structure. There were a few cliches, sure, but not too many, and now everything is destroyed so a new generation of douches can stand in.

God, I hate Emmerich so much, how could he do that... he turned a simply sci-fi movie about Earth vs. Aliens into some intergalactic BS. *beep*!

The Only "Good" things

- African dude and nerdy dude kinda had a nice chemistry, but the nerdy dude wasn't that funny. Also, they were - surprise - underdeveloped. Oh, here's a line that says that your father was a dictator and your brother died. Ok, that's the best you'll get in 2 hours of movie. As for the nerdy guy, here are some unfunny lines.

- Good use of Brent Spiner, I liked that he got badass by the end and more likeable than in the first movie.

- At least they used David's score during the credits.

And that's it really. Even Jeff Goldblum who's always great to watch was... meh...

I once told a man to go screw himself! Can you even imagine?! - Kilgrave

I totally agree about not having David Arnold do the score.

I agree with everything you've pointed out. In the 1996 film, I cared for the characters that witnessed the destruction and how hopeless it all was and I cheered when the good guys won. It really made me feel that something extraordinary had happened. Mankind had prevailed.

This film made me feel something else: boredom and an increasing disgust for these fake second-rate Hollywood blockbusters that put emphasis on CGI action, overcomplicated plots and cardboard characters. Plus the lack of emotion and a great score. Yeah why enlist the help of mediocre David Arnold when you can have the wonderful talents of Harald Kloser and Thomas Wanker. They have given us so much memorable music...

What a waste of my money and time this movie turned out to be.
The first one I'll love until I die, because that one has real heart and thrills.

PSSST...........

......... The first one isn't very good.

Have you ever noticed that the people who say "DC is for adults and Marvel is for kids", are kids?

reply

absolutely

this has a 5.3 at the moment and that's being generous

the original is easily a 8-9

yes, my biggest complaint with this movie. president whitmore was such a great character in the first one, he needed a major death. as soon as they showed the queen survived, it made his sacrifice pointless.

Agreed with everything.

Pullman probably lobbied to be killed somehow as to not be asked to come back for another one LOL

I agree his death was entirely stupid as it really ended up doing nothing.

reply

The most asinine thing was having almost all the presidential line of succession in the same place.
