shareWe aren't supposed to know where/when. It's like Rey and Finn in TFA, where they are new characters, but as to the origin and just where they came from, well, it's not important.
We're mainly supposed to care about them because they're the next generation, taking on the alien scum...of course by the end, I didn't care about any of them.

You haven't seen the new Star Wars, have you? They're the main protagonists in that. To revert to your original question, they could have been killed in any of the cities that were attacked in the first movie. Just because they died doesn't mean they received an on-screen death.
