What other films have heavily catered to China's audience.

Films like this make the China and the US seem like BFF. It's shameless.

China's Wanda group bought Legendary Entertainment.
Dreamworks has also moved to China (but still based in US)
Lots of big Chinese companies are buying-up studios fro Hollywood.

It's strange how this hasn't got much media attention.

China only allows 35 foreign movies to be shown in the country per year. So basically, every movie is doing their best to cater to China; whether it be casting a famous Chinese actor for a part and/or adding extra scenes for a Chinese audience, or even adding pop-culture references specifically for Chinese audiences (like Independence Day 2 did)

All this is done in a hope for the Chinese movie board to approve a foreign movie to make it one of the 35 movies shown in that year.

Words like "selling-out" and "shameless" are like water off a duck's back for these studios, as China is where the money is at.

The Last Transformers movie showed "noble China protecting Hong Kong". Chinese goverment to the rescue!

Donie Yen is getting top billing in Rogue One in China.

Surprisingly Arrival showed China in refreshing breath of negativity. Guess it wasn't shown in the worker's paradise.

Is he? I watched the film in Hong Kong and he didn't get top billing over here - and he's a pretty big crowd pleaser over here.

The third installment of "The Mummy" centers in China.

China good, Russia baad.

2012 by the same director does China pandering to a Tee. Part of it is set in remote parts of Tibet, except all of the Tibetans are played by ethnic Chinese actors and speak Chinese not Tibetan. Almost like Tibet was always Chinese and never invaded.

I watched "Alice Through the Looking Glass" the other night, and they hammered in some stuff for the Chinese audience.

Basically, the start of the film shows Alice aboard her ship trying to escape Chinese pirates in their sampans.

Then, when she gets back to England, she tells how she spent time in China, as well as coming to a social function in a 'loudly-colored' dress from the orient, claiming if it was good enough for the Empress of China, it is good enough for the social function.

They tried to make that all natural, but it just felt too heavily like pandering.

Even "Transformers, Age of Extinction" is a prime example.

Funniest of all is when Wahlberg's character tries to access an ATM all the way out in the middle of nowhere, and it's for a Chinese bank!? His ATM card is even for the bank!

Good observation about Alice you're right.

The Martian did the same, with China suddenly coming out of nowhere to save the day.

A big chunk of it was filmed in Macau and featured the city's casinos prominently. They also cast Jay Chou, a Chinese musician and actor, in a supporting role and used some of his music for the soundtrack.
