Almost redeemed at the end, but....


I love how we almost get a cookie-cutter ending with our heroine realizing she needs to grow up, move on, become a better person, etc. But then with one comment from Matt's sister, she's back to her old ways. I just love it! It's the only way this movie should end...there is no redemption for Mavis...not this moment in time anyway.

Yes, very brave move. Only a certain kind of person will like it and I admire writing like that.

Very good, brave and original, yes. Jason Reitman said he knew he had to make this movie when he read that scene.

I liked it. She's a loser, an alcoholic, and an asshole, and she knows it. There's no growth or redemption. That's what the movie is about, and that's why some people don't like it, but it succeeds perfectly at tragedy.
