Both of them were so terribly miscast it ruined the film for me, that and the background cgi.
I thought Weisz and Williams were decent enough but the other two were just so totally out of their depth and element it was distracting and made the movie a lot worse than what it could have been.
Shame because this movie should have been a lot better than what it turned out to be.
How do people as untalented as Franco get to be movie stars? He has a dreadful, scratchy voice, and his face and teeth are unattractive--awful when he smiles. His spoken lines become mush in his mouth.
In truth, casting as a whole was suspect in this film. Weisz and King performed their roles admirably, but everyone else seemed miscast.
In regards to Kunis, I have found myself impressed by her performance in previous roles, but this one seemed to be entirely one dimensional. While much of that can be laid at the feet of the script, it's still up to an actor or actress to make a role better than it is written.
As a generic fantasy movie this film has a certain merit, but as an actual part of a legacy greater than itself (i.e. 'OZ'), it fails. Had it been, 'Mchmoz, the Great and Powerful', much could be overlooked. But as it was not...
I just watched it for the first time. I thought Kunis really owned it. She was only so so in her opening role, but once she went evil I thought she was great. Someone complained here that her face was too round. Really??? You thought she should get plastic surgery for this role? I thought she did well as a "young" evil witch and could imagine her evolving over time into the wicked witch we love to hate in the classic movie version.

Mila Kunis in 2013 was only 6 years younger than Margaret Hamilton was in 1939 (30 vs. 36 years old).
