What would of made the movie better
I watched the movie for the first time in 2016 after blind-buying the 3D Blu-ray. I thought James Franco was just okay, he wasn't bad, but he was nothing special. Okay, decent, fine, passable, not bad, whatever.
Sometimes I like to think of ways to improve movies, make better movies in my mind, if you will, whether it be a poor waste of an opportunity (Maleficent), or something I like, but think a change or two could of made it even better (Star Wars). And that's what I did with Oz the Great and Powerful. What came to mind is....
"This movie needs a different lead!"
Sam should of cast longtime Bruce Campbell as Oz. He's delightfully energetic, over-the-top and most of all charismatic. Because of this I feel he would be more convincing in the role of the con man/charlatan/womaniser type than Franco who didn't possess any of these traits. Also rewrite the character to suit him. Whereas Franco's Oz is a young man who feels he's going nowhere, have Bruce's Oz start off as what I imagine James' character was worried he would become, an ageing, over-the-hill dreamer who feels his life has never amounted to anything.
It's just an idea and it'll never happen, but hey, a guy can dream.
