Pretend that this movie...(ending spoilers)

Is set in 2011, there is no twist at the end which reveals it was 2000 all along (which obviously means the ending is different), but certain things in the script (mostly references) are kept the same. So instead of all the old things being used as foreshadowing that the movie is set in the past (because they're secretly referencing current things, for the time period of the movie) they are simply referencing old things (e.g. when Nathan quotes from "The Sixth Sense" he is no longer quoting from a year old movie in the guise of quoting from a twelve year old movie - he's actually quoting from a twelve year old movie).

To me, the movie would be no different in that respect, and the fact that they are referring to things that are "old" because people things do not stop existing because they are old, regardless of how famous they are.

Here are some examples of what I mean; Note, for all of these we shall imagine that FD5 is set in 2011.

Molly Playing "I Will Buy You a New Life" by Everclear in her car

If it's the radio, it could be a station that plays a variety of songs from a variety of decades, not just songs that stayed popular. If it's not the radio, Molly could simply like that song so much she never forgot it, and still listens to it in 2011.

Olivia's (boy)friend or whoever he was mentions Lisa Loeb

He could have been a fan of Lisa Loeb back when she was more famous, and simply never forgotten her. Since we don't know how close he and Olivia are, she could know about the fact he is still a fan of hers (or at least never forgot that he was one) or be the same herself.

These are the ones I wish to draw the most attention too, as things do not stop existing just because they are old, and it doesn't matter how popular they are/were there is always someone who is a fan, and portraying that in a movie is more realistic and true to life.

Nathan quoting from "The Sixth Sense"

Nathan could simply be a fan of the movie. To be fair "The Sixth Sense" is probably more famous than the other examples, but you get the point.

I am aware that there are more obvious hints that the movie is set in an earlier time, such as Isaac's phone (which still could work in the "set in 2011" version, as Isaac, could just have an out of date phone) the fact that the certificate said "2001" (which was probably meant to confuse us, as in make us think we had read it wrong, but it wouldn't exist in this version).

If there is anything else you think of, say I and I will say which category it goes in (Could work in the "set in 2011" version or would not be used.)

I am aware that this is long, but it had to be to make sense, so please reply respectfully.
