So this is a prequel but[spoiler]

I rewatched this movie since there was nothing on tv and I had it on dvd. The whole facade of this movie is that *spoiler* this starts the whole series. ie the ending is the guy and girl are on a plane to Paris when some highschoolers from FS1 fight about the plane crashing. One scene that got me was the coroner (aka Candyman) tell the survivors after the "Death by Buddha" guy dies, that he had seen this before.

wait? If this movie was what started the "Death doesn't like to be cheated" deal then what was the prequel to the prequel? Did Candyman witness in his younger days people surviving some horrible accident then got killed off one by one?
or was this an "oopsie" /?

Your title's already a spoiler, just FYI.

To answer your question, how do we know that this is what started it all? It could have been happening for years, even centuries by this point. One of the books (which are their own canon, I think, but you get the point) is set during Jack The Ripper era, so it has probably been happening in the FD world for a long time.

I hope that if they make more they don't set them at an earlier time again, or at least do some which are set "now".

Alex Browning and Flight 180/Sam and the bridge were not the first people Death stalked. Death has been around as long as humans (if not longer) which means this has been happening for centuries. This could have happened in the old west, or in the 1940s, etc.

If at first you don't succeed, remove all evidence you ever tried.

This movie starts the series in that it occurs before the first one.

This movie doesn’t start the notion of death or that it doesn’t like to be cheated, it only starts this movie franchise.

No goof here, he probably has indeed seen this sort of thing before, but we simply have not seen in on film in the franchise.

Your confusion stems from mixing up the film chronology with the story chronology. As I said, the events in this movies take place before the events of the other movies, but that doesn’t mean it was the first time it ever happened.

Putting the spoiler warning after the spoiler is a bigger "oopsie..."
