Do we actually see the assassination?

I'm guessing it'd be near the beginning of the movie if so

Given the R rating mentions "brief strong violence" I'd assume so and that it is done in pretty graphic detail

The best bio-pic about the Kennedys was "Kennedy", the 1983 T.V. mini-series that stars Martin Sheen. The assassination is shown VERY graphically at the end -- the blood sprays across Jackie's face, in fact. This was an excellent movie. Hope this one will be good.

I saw the film tonight, there are a few flashbacks to the assassination events during the film, but you see the shooting itself in the last one (which is maybe 15 minutes before the end of the film) and it's quick but graphic.

There is huge blood mist from JFK's head when he's shot, and then a couple overhead shots showing the hole in his head and brain matter splatter which Jackie is trying to keep in there with her hands (there are 2 or 3 F bombs as well, but I get the sense that this part is the main reason for the R rating).

Ifeel wrong saying this but do we really need a movie about her? What has she done besides be the wife of the president

I get what your saying. Like why do we need a biopic of her, but in reality, this isnt your typical biopic. Its taking one piece of her life, that was the most crucial in defining her character, but most of all, cementing her status as an American Icon. Sure some will say she was just the wife of JFK, but majority will say that she was one of the few first ladies to dramatically change the white house, fight for equal rights along with her husband, support her husband during many crisis that America faced (Cuban Missal for one) but most importantly, how she metaphorically bore the grief of the whole nation when her husband died.

Jackie is a fascinating character and sure there has been numerous tv series, documentaries about her life, but all of them never truly focus on the woman. This film seems to achieve that, and the psychology of Jackie during that horrible event in her life.
