Overwrought drama with no insight....

I've read and researched enough about the Kennedys to feel that this movie is nothing but a drama awards grab attempt.

Aside from obvious events, Jackie seems to be a complete fabrication with no nuance or point of view. For all the crying and melodrama in the movie, I couldn't drudge up one bit of care or concern and found none of the characters/actors engaging.

Jackie is a mediocre at best movie that moves at a slow crawl and delivers nothing but scattered fragments of a cardboard puppet.

I think this movie was just using the JFK assassination and the aftermath through Jackie's perspective to really portray the theme of loss in the spotlight, celebrity, presidential politics (with some biting comments sprinkled by Bobby and Jackie), and playing the role of the wife. It wasn't meant to be a full-fledged portrayal of Jackie but rather glimpses into her through this trauma. That said, I agree with you that it was overwrought and I felt as if the film did fail on a number of levels. I didn't think what they showed was very interesting or compelling to see, and at the same time chose an extremely heavy-handed way of conveying the dark mood. It became a two-dimensional portrayal of that entire time.
