OSCAR?

Natalie Portman is convincing as the grief stricken widow, and this film is a good showcase for her acting talents, if you agreed with the OSCAR for her role in Black Swan then do you think this is also a dead cert?

I agree, I really liked the close up shots of her. You could really feel and empathize with her pain and sorrow.

What did it for me was at the start of the film when she was describing to the reporter the look on his face when she knew her husband was dead, the puzzled look on his face when JFK was asked a question. I interpreted her facial expressions in that scene was her trying mimic him.

... and that music really worked. All those up and down crescendos created the perfect atmosphere and really drove the solemn narrative.

Maybe the score needs to be awarded as well?

reply

To me, it reminded me of Thomas Newman one of my favourite composers.

Never bought her as JK for a single second. The effort showed, at least in the dialogue scenes. I'd rather they tossed another statuette Meryl's way than give it to Portman again.
