Accent

I've see an overwhelming amount of reviews praising Natalie Portman's accent, but when I watch Jackie's White House tour I don't hear similarities.

Am I missing something?

I thought she sounded like Marilyn Monroe with that accent. Sometimes I couldn't even understand what she was saying.

Portman's accent is horrific.

She sounds like a retarded kid

She sounds just like Jackie did in the White House tour. As an adolescent, I watched the tour on TV and I was appalled at how she spoke! Natalie has it perfectly.

It's an approximation of the accent and the speech patterns, and it may even be fairly close at times. The problem is that it's so studied and practiced that it comes off as weirdly disconnected. There are scenes where Portman is delivering all the requisite emotions, but in the interview scenes I frequently lost all sense of what the character was saying because what dominated was the effort Portman was making to nail it. She certainly didn't wear the speech as lightly as she should have. The result was i never really got into the movie - not that it was up to much - because I never really bought her as Jackie.

I completely agree with ozjosh observations, nevertheless in the whole I found the movie was a fine tribute to Jacqueline Kennedy.
Anyway the speech of the real Jackie sounds quite different as I can understand each and every word she says while in the interpretation given by the Portman I've lost many of them and ultimately their meaning too.
I wish she had not pretended this bad imitation: maybe she ought have given a better portrait by just using her own voice perhaps with a controlled tone as the words choices had already been properly made by the writer.

I can definitely see the similarities, but man, every word out of her mouth, especially when she's getting interviewed after the assassination, is so. clearly. e nun ci ate d. When the real Jackie talks, she just talks, and it flows out of her naturally.
