The trivia section on this board is simply disgusting

It has been hijacked by trolls of the advertising department of Fox Searchlight. Praising the movie, telling you what you should see and shamelessly promoting the movie for the Academy Awards.

Administrators should remove 90 % of the so-called trivia, because there is hardly any interesting information, but blatant advertising and publicity.

I did not think the movie was really bad (not brillant either), but the shamelessness of this makes almost hate the movie. Really disgusting !

For your information:

I consider IMDB primarily as a source of information and secondly the boards as a means for film fans / enthusiasts / cinephiles to share / exchange their opinions.

If the information aspect is corrupted by advertising, it strongly diminishes the value of IMDB.

I know that there is a lot of rigging and manipulation going on (e.g. with the rating for certain films), but I have not encountered yet such un unashamedly obvious attempt at manipulation as in the trivia section here.

If you do not care, that's ok with me. I am disturbed if someone tries to make a fool out of me by pretending to provide information disguised as advertising.

Is there another Imdb I don't know about?

I agree. I often pop into the Trivia section after watching a movie. I was a bit taken aback that there were already over 120 trivia entries for Jackie. Then I started reading and realized nearly all (or all?) were just PR paragraphs. Is imdb supportive of this nowadays?

reply

Totally agree with OP. The Trivia section is full of quotes from what looks like a PR puff. Could someone who administers this board have a look and make a decision of what is appropriate. There is also some repetition.

It's so long that those of us who like to look for trivia related to a movie and do not want to wade through pages of quotes from the director / producer / costume designer et al will be put off.

I also agree with the OP regarding the Jackie trivia. Like many, I love going to the IMDB trivia when watching a film, but Jackie was something else. I've never seen so many bloated paragraphs used under the guise of a trivia "fact." They read more like interviews with the director, production designer, costumer, etc.

I actually submitted a trivia item for Jackie but still have no idea if it was a go/no go. (How would I even find it? Lol) I'll post it below just for the hell of it. I also happen to live less than three miles from the location where JFK was shot, so I can speak to some of the events listed in my, hopefulyl, some what interesting fact. (Like streets being closed for anothe JFK-related production.)

Trivia:
It has been said, filming in Dallas at the exact location was impossible due to a busy thoroughfare where the tragic event happened as well area tourist attractions. Interestingly enough, the writer Stephen King wrote a book called 11/22/63, which is based around the JFK assassination. The book was then made into a miniseries for Hulu, which aired in 2016, and featured James Franco. The 11/22/63 miniseries filmed here in Dallas, on location, at the historical site. Streets in downtown Dallas closed for three days during filming.

I couldn't agree more. I couldn't even make it half way through, because it became clear that the producers have stuffed the board with what feels like a promotional campaign disguised as 'fun facts.'

It's paragraph after paragraph about the "genius" decisions made by the director, editors, costume designers, composer...on and on and on.

I'll be clear. I loved Natalie Portman's performance in this film. Everything else I thought was a complete fail. It was such a great concept but just didn't pan out. The disjointed directing, poor editing and godawful score made it painful to watch.

And with IMDB shutting down their message boards, I am afraid this is what IMDB will become - simply a place for producers and studios to promote their "product" without having to deal with their audience calling them on it.

reply

In the case of the Trivia section of this film, the audience is already reacting, as shown by the fact that as more and items were added, the negative votes ("uninteresting") increased, until finally, less than one in ten marked the item(s) as "interesting".

+1 they even repeat themselves

I totally agree with the OP. I have always looked upon the Trivia section as the place where I could read some relatively unimportant but interesting facts about the film, even if they are only of a small and tangential nature and thus often go unnoticed by cinemagoers. This function has largely been served by the pages of other films but this one is really the exception and a disgrace. Apparently the filmmakers or people related to them had hijacked the place and used it for their own advertising and promotion, writing long paragraphs on every aspect of the film to force on users not trivia that might be interesting, but instead how great and wonderful the production team was in doing everything. It is really a disgrace if this is the kind of site IMDb allows itself to turn into.
