It's like they decided to add the whole Jackie Chan storyline in post production

Seriously, does Jackie Chan's character influence the story in any significant way? Even in the ending fight where he attacks the terrorists it's the counter-terrorist team that finishes the job.

It feels to me like they took an unpolished political thriller that could work just fine on its own and randomly slapped over an unfinished Jackie Chan movie to draw in larger audience, and somehow it turned out not to be a complete disaster, lol.

Imagine Patriot Games but with old Chinese man bullying Jack Ryan to give him the names by planting explosives in his backyard as a side plot.

LOL... I don't disagree, although it was fun to see Chan go full Rambo here.

He was one of the producers so that probably was a factor.

Chan's character does not affect the actions of the government towards the bombers and the end remains the same whether or not his character is involved. Kind of like Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark; he has little effect on the end as the Ark is opened anyway and then lost in government storage.

But as it is in the book, his quest is interesting. The book does not have the "happy ending" of the film though. The book has a far higher body count, including the Chinaman.
