what makes this different from other shows

when compared to other shows, what is it about Mike and Molly? is it because they are fat?

I haven't watched it, but Fox Comedy is airing it nonstop in my country, and I'm not interested in sitting for 30 minutes watching fat jokes or something like it.

is it worth it?

Sean Bean has not died from Lightsaber related issues yet...just saying

I haven't watched it,

You'll never know unless you watch it. It's done in 4 months, seasons 1-4 are my favorite but worth watching for Lou Mustillo alone. Also love Katy Mixon's character early on.

To Iberian Wolf ;

No, the lead characters having a 'weight problem' is not the reason to watch.

If this show was nothing but fat jokes, Melissa McCarthy & Billy Gardell would not be the lead actors or characters. They'd be more like overweight characters in a 1970s or 1980s comedy, the target of people's bad humor.

What makes this show worth it, is it's (at least in the first 4 years) is a show demonstrating that just because people are 'big', that does not mean they don't have the same dreams, feelings and longings that 'thin / 'in shape' people do.

It's wonderful to watch 2 strangers meet and fall in love and get
to know each other and establish a truly loving and adult relationship.

It's also just a very funny show. yes there are a few fat' jokes but most of them are told by Mike or Molly, or Mike's good friend Carl, who Mike knows that his buddy is just kidding like close friends do.

The writing is very funny, sometimes even clever or
even bordering on something that 'might' get censored but doesn't.

One last thing, Mike's mother and Molly's family are all a bit 'unstable' in different ways, but they all agree they do care about each other. No mater how loud or brash they may get.

I reviewed the show back in 2010 here on IMDb
and it's still there to read, along with other reviews.

...but, like Hide said, watch the show. Stat with episode one and go
straight through. hoefully, you'll like it as much as most of us here. 

Have a good one. 

Thanks for the input, i'll watch a couple of episodes and make my own opinion.

If you guys had said it was just about fat jokes or the main thing was them being fat I wouldn't bother.

Is is because they are fat? No, it's because their relationship and the family dynamics. Although I'm not fond of some of her movies, M. McCarthy is at her acting best in this sitcom.

Thanks for putting that in a shorter way than I'm capable of.  

I'm not good at being short & to the point sometimes. Kind of curse
of having taken my schooling a bit more seriously than my peers, I guess.

Bye now. 

Maybe this will put it in perspective.

Have you ever seen "Married with Children"? If you have, then you've seen "Mike & Molly." They're the same thing - a totally dysfunctional family that none of the neighbors like. And the laughs come from the interplay of their dysfunctions. Molly is an annoying and conniving bitch, Mike is a ravenous glutton, Victoria is a pot head with a room temperature IQ, Vince is a greasy 65-year-old Jersey Boy with (as Molly puts it) absolutely no filter. Joyce is an mean-tempered alcoholic. And Carl (not really part of the family, but a major cast member) is a chronic masterbator with the emotional level of a 12-year-old. And then there's Peggy Biggs, the most self-absorbed, controlling shrew ever in a sitcom (I like her best).

And they all play together for 22 minutes each week. Enjoy the show.

It isn't different, it sucks just like most of them...

yeah, it is going to have the occasional funny scene, but 90% of it isn't funny.
