Did they establish that Mike and Molly can't have

Biological children of their own? I might have missed it. Thanks.

It just hasn't happened yet so I believe they're worried they cannot. Chances are that she'll find out she's brings as soon as they adopt. It's been done before, even on the King of Queens finale.

And Rules of Engagement.

I'm watching an old rerun right now, and Molly's just gotten checked at the doctor because it was taking so long to get pregnant. But later on, Mike found out that she'd gone back on the pill. I think they just discontinued this storyline.

I thought the same thing. They'll get a baby, and then she'll find out she's pregnant. Would be a cute ending to the series, after them trying so long.

They dropped that subplot when the new show runner came on board (that was when the opening titles changed). It's briefly mentioned that she had a miscarriage - not in so many words, since they revamped the finale so she doesn't tell him she's pregnant - and that was that. The only other time was the episode where she tells him she went back on the pill because it was so stressful to try and fail every month.

reply

I don't remember the miscarriage or the fact she was pregnant what episode are you referring to?

reply

The end of season 3 - Windy City. It only aired once in some locations and then they cut and re-edited it to take the announcement out. The next episode - first one of season 4, when they retooled the show - there's a blink and you'll miss it mention of how it didn't work out. She never says miscarriage - it's very vague, since a lot of people didn't see the original broadcast of season 3. I actually didn't see it, it didn't air for me until the edited version came on right before season 4, but it blew up the boards here for a while and people were wondering what was going on.

reply

They never said it explicitly, but there was one or two episodes where they've talked about how they'd been trying. As someone else pointed out, Molly went back on the pill because she hated trying every month only for it to not happen.

I think Molly finally getting pregnant was another clever way to tie in Melissa McCarthy's weight loss. Overweight/obese women tend to have irregular cycles and often have a hard time getting pregnant, and now that Molly's a lot smaller, there wasn't any mention of anything else keeping her from having a baby.

reply

The weight loss = pregnancy thing is very real. I think they could have even explicitly stated on the show that Molly's weight loss helped in the pregnancy.
