just watched my 2nd ever mike and molly episode: support your local

support your local samuel

bad taste in my mouth from the first 5 minutes

the first episode i watched 2 years ago where molly quit her teaching job to work for an alcoholic writer. i saw it because a client of mine liked the show so i watched it with her. the previews for this episode caught my attention

first, "you're family's in africa and they're sending you money"

a little ignorant, you automatically think his family is poor because they're from africa? what if he was from australia, would the line be the same? i know it wouldnt if he were from china, or england. ignorantly racist

second, "im sorry, im just picturing a man covered in flies writing you a check"

what the actual *beep*? shame shame shame. YES, i am being oversensitive. but so what? they weren't being sensitive at all. the ignorance of white people, and the nerve of their privilege and outrages when they dont get their way. hilarious

i know those lines didnt get a second look, not if they were something ignorant and hurtful about gays

just wanted to say something, i know you guys dont care. i so look forward to reading your posts

first of all, i dont give a flying **** whether molly quit to work for an alcoholic writer, or to be a writer. it had nothing to do with my original post, i mentioned it to say i've seen an episode. sorry i got a little detail wrong about an ep i saw 2 years ago. she ended up working for an alcoholic writer regardless, lmfao. get your panties out of a bunch

second, mike getting the impression samuel's family was poor because of his statements, ok. mike automatically imagining a man covered in flies writing a check, not ok.

thats what people do. they watch shows and they judge them. there was no background of "samuel, you always talk about how poor your family is, and they're sending you money?!" it was "your family's in africa and sending you money in america?" thats racist. that is an insult to africa, not an insightful statement about samuel's family

the moral of the story is, dont get your panties in a bunch about a sitcom filled with actors who give no *beep* about you. freaking privilege

thanks :)
