I loved Lavinia.
Rewatching the show and remembering how much I loved Lavinia. There was something about her that was just sweet, and kind and funny all at the same time. And gorgeous!

Absolutely. Too good for this world; if she was meant to be a shadow on Matthew and Mary's self-satisfaction, she was well cast.
At 9.30, a rare moment of cattiness:

I liked her, but she was TOO nice. "Oh I'm dying but I know you really love Mary and I give you my blessing as I exit this world you should feel completely guiltless over the fact you were probably going to dump me anyway even though I was nothing but loving and faithful bye."
Lavinia might have been a bit too nice, but let's not forget the even more outrageously saintly act on her father's part when he decided to include Matthew in his list of heirs despite knowing that Matthew was about to dump his daughter on the eve of their marriage. That was one of the least believable turns of event in DA.

Yes, that's why Matthew finally accepted the inheritance, because he knew Reggie hadn't made the bequest under false pretenses about Matthew. Reggie learned of it in Lavinia's letter - the one Daisy posted that no one knew about until Mary read the letter Reggie left for Matthew. Remember how Mary asked downstairs if anyone had posted a letter on Lavinia's last day?
shareI see someone deleted my harmless post again, but you think Lavinia saw that Matthew truly loved Mary but she would have still married Matthew anyway?

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.
I see someone deleted my harmless post again, but you think Lavinia saw that Matthew truly loved Mary but she would have still married Matthew anyway? Not after she told Carlyle how she despaired of Matthew ever forgetting Mary, and I don't think he made it up because that sounds like her. As soon as she'd made progress, Mary came back to wreck it all. Sounds like the exact dynamic with her and Tony. Not enough she has her man; she wants everyone else's as well. And if Matthew'd married Lavinia, he'd have survived much longer. share

I can't believe it. The vicious deleter is after me now. Is it because I said something negative about the saintly Lavinia, or was it that I criticized it for deleting innocuous posts?
The administrators of this board are truly pathetic if they allow this to continue. Is there no oversight here??

Anyhoo, what I was saying was that I lost some respect for Lavinia when I heard that comment of Carlisle. She told him "If only he (Matthew) could admit the truth, all four of us might have a chance."
She knew Matthew was too honourable to throw her over. If she knew the truth herself, why didn't she release Matthew from the engagement and give the four of them a chance?
And her distress at the stolen kiss between Matthew and Mary was kinda put on, don'tcha think? It's not as if their love came as a shock to her. She knew the truth and was refusing to admit it so as to keep Matthew for herself. Her release of Matthew on her deathbed could also be read as a way to send him on a guilt trip, hmmm?
And what's this supposed to mean?

And although Mary "had" Carlisle, she didn't exactly want him, did she? She accepted his proposal only once she thought Matthew was out of reach forever, and regretted it almost immediately. She would have broken the engagement if not for the scandal hanging over her head. And once Matthew had sent Lavinia away, the field was really open, I'd say.
Yes, it would have been better if she simply break up with Matthew and gave him that same explanation. For me it was the same with Sybil, it was too nice, the characters that are fun are those who are imperfect (as any human)
shareShe was my favorite character on the show, followed by Anna.
