Pretty sure if the stabbing didn't kill him, getting pinned under the car that smashed through the door did him in, I'd have to double check. I don't think they intended for him to survive, the only reason they spared him from the initial stabbing was so the filmmakers would have more surveillance footage making his buddy look guilty.
I don't know for certain, just my two cents.
I'm pretty sure he died, otherwise his friend would have been released and not blamed for it. The whole movie made it out to look like his friend can be blamed for it.
