It could be a Canadian thing (I grew up on the East Coast in the US), but I've never seen a stand alone ATM kiosk or 'booth' like that situated in the middle of a parking lot. It reminded of the old 'Fotomats' we had in the US in the 1970s. Every ATM I've used has been in a lobby of a building or attached to a building. Do they have these sort of stand alone ATM 'booths' in the United States in the middle of a parking lot?

They do.

They do have these. They even have a Wachovia one that was a standalone ATM in the middle of a parking lot that we parked far away from so one person could get out to withdraw money. You can even Google Streetview it.
