When the killer is behind the ATM banging away, the 2 guys come out and start running in opposite directions as fast as they can. I don't think the girl had suitable shoes, she just stays put. Even if the killer got the car he couldn't chase down both guys even if he could see where they went. He'd know it would be only minutes until one of the guys flagged down someone and called police.
He'd have no choice but get out of there and PDQ.
yes, by him banging on the back, he let them know that he was out of sight and occupied, then of course they get a nice head start, that's what I thought too.

Yeah I thought the same thing. you'd think these guys would be smarter than that. Also the killer is just hoping that his prey doesn't have a cell phone? And if they do and are saved by the police and tell them what happened, all his planning would have been for nothing.
