It remained plausible throughout.
I could see myself in this type of situation. People that have reviewed this movie have said they saw things that would never happen but I was in a situation just like this myself before.
People do stop at ATM's in the dead of night, wasted, trying to get something to eat even though everything is closed. That happens.
They're working adults but I suspect that both the boys if not also the girl are in debt. Corey appears like the type of person who isn't smart with his money and in earlier scenes the viewer can infer that Corey lives beyond his means and probably have student loads to pay. It's very likely.
The movie even addresses that myth that if a person enters their PIN backwards it alerts the police. This is something many people still believe today, and something people would try.
I've read people referencing why they parked so far away. It wasn't that far it was still a reasonable distance. They didn't have the part right up on it. This was a booth type ATM, it's not like it was one of those ones where you can just drive right up on it. And even more likely when it's friends who are in the car, not really having wanted to go to the ATM in the first place, eager to get home and drop of Corey that he would part about that far. Not all ATM's have parking lots that you can drive up real close to either.
The decision not to reveal the stalker's motive isn't actually necessary so I'm not frustrated by it. Was it a real need-to-know? I got what I wanted out of this movie.
Let's see, the passerby having gotten killed, no, I don't see anything particularly irritating about those. Many of the moments in the movie fall within reasonable suspension of disbelief.
Why didn't the characters just run, etc. run where? There was nowhere to run to before they had gotten tired and attacked. The ATM was a safe haven and at least it was warm. Let me tell you, you wouldn't feel like doing anything after you've been on almost -10 degree weather for 5 hours.
The one time I can say that the characters when far off the path of what I would do is when they left the ATM to save Corey. Corey was being an *beep* who made his own decision. I wouldn't have went back out there to save him. The most I would've done is shake my head. He made a decision.
All of the other people who said just run and gun it, that's probably what would've happened to them too. Nobody saw that wire coming up, did they?
