Apparently there are no black male actors in hollywood

considering the only black male roles in this film are played by rappers.

You find fault with that, but not Jon Bon Jovi's totally uninspired performance, horrible line delivery, and sickening lack of chemistry with Katherine Heigl?

I don't know what you are hinting at with these comments, but pigeonholing Ludacris and Common because they are actors/rappers [to very brilliant rappers] is insulting to them as people, as professionals, and as black people.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a rapper, no more than there is something wrong with being a heavy metalist. I make the comparison, because, the social history of race aside, heavy metalist are stereotyped as racists and/or Neo Nazis. Just a rappers are all marginalized as misogynists thugs.

Such generalizations are ignorant. Common and Ludacris are real rappers, respectable men who ere on the creative side of rapport poetry than "shake that ass, bounce that booty/ i like to get high and fvck" pop garbage.

Oh yeah, and from what I have seen in interviews of Scott Ian [of Anthrax] when he is not spewing discordant, chaotic rage anthems; he is a cool, sweet, well informed guy who is always smiling and respectful of other talented people.

Ludacris also makes stupid songs: I got hoes \ in different area codes, a 100 times repeated went his biggest hit.

but yeah, he also makes brilliant ones. God dammit everyone, listen to this lesser known gem which might be one of the best ever

Did you ever see Chris Bridges on Law and Order: SVU? The man can act.

Most of the time I don't have a lot of patience with 'quota' complaints, but this time I think you've got a point. NYE, like Valentine's Day, is stuffed wall to wall with big name actors playing under-written characters. Not having a real black male actor in this case is a pretty glaring omission.

Especially given how diverse New York is.

The title to your post made it sound like there were no black actors at all in this film....I do not know why you are complaining? Look at Tyler Perry's films...which race do you see most of? Black peoplel...there's hardly any other race...just think it's silly how people complain about races. Who cares?> we are all people...let's just enjoy a film together instead of worry8ing who is white and who is black...oh and if there are mexicans in this film...honestly...

However, they were not your "typical" role for black male rappers. Both of the roles showed they had really great professions: A police officer, captain, I think. And Common was a soldier.

Maybe some of the more high-profile black actors, Jamie Foxx, Denzel, Will Smith, didn't want to be cast in this film. Jamie was in Valentine's Day and maybe he didn't want to be in another dud.

I can almost guarentee you denzel and will both would have turned this down. Most black entertainers get cast in things over regular actor's because the studios think they have a larger fanbase since music is much more universial.
