Stereotypical scene with the Asian cook

I thought the scene where the Asian guy at the Japanese restaurant, with the VERY clear American accent, suddenly goes "ALone, always ALONE" in this stereotypical voice. i mean, just rubbed me the wrong way and seemed kind of silly. At least use someone who isn't americanized, or maybe an older out of touch foreigner. It just didn't make sense to me as he wasn't foreign, but an American of Asian ethnicity.

The statement below is false.
The statement above is true.

Maybe the director thought it was funnier that way?

Or maybe the actor figured his character was so use to using a stereotype accent that he'd slip into it without thinking since as a sushi chef serving white people the accent would become a habit.
