Vaults smash buildings but not trees.

Did anybody see the first tree the vault bounced off? But yet it took out buildings and concrete blocks. I know the whole scene was impossible but this part in particular seemed really dumb. Otherwise, great film!

Everything about the vault sequence was dumb. Things like force, momentum, inertia, etc. - the general laws of physics - applied in incredible ways to the cars and objects that were being smashed but did not apply to Dom's car or Brian's car. Dom's car not being affected in any way as he whipped the vault into car after car on the bridge was quite laughable (along with everything else in the scene, for that matter).

But that's all beside the point. It was supposed to be a giant entertaining spectacle and fun to watch - which it was.

who cares about momentum and inertia and all that BS, what other movie do you know had a badass ending like that? very over the top but still was awesome!!

reply

Everyone knows the laws of physics don't exist in action movies.

That whole vault scene were plain stupid. Ohh we are not moving and the wheels are already spinning lets add NOS because that gives extra traction. Someone might find that entertaining but for me that ruins it totally I can live with small impossible things but that is just plain stupid.

Another thing about the series are the car races. Here they steal 4 identical cop cars which we could presume have similar specs so the winner would be the driver that best hits the green light and times the gear changes. There is no magic acceleration just because you change gear that will allow you to jump ahead.

reply

You are absolutely right. There is nothing to discuss here. That vault is easily a couple tons. While making turns, those cars would fly away/ be pulled back towards the vault. The vault would still be sliding to the sides and something as heavy and fast in motion as that vault would simply make those cars fly away. This is just one example. There are just too many wrong things in terms of laws of physics but it's just fun to watch of course. On the other hand though, decreases the quality of the movie. These details should be taken seriously with high-budget movies/blockbusters, etc.

Fast and furious movies are anyways not about racing anymore. The crew basically became soldiers now and there is just a lot of action.

reply

Well, they are allowed to smash buildings in movies but they aren't allowed to harm any plants or animals for the sake of filming a movie. The tree huggers and animal lovers would be up in arms if they did....LOL.

A tree can with stand a lot of force. that is what roots are for

a tree can withstand some of the most extreme weather such as hurricanes, windstorms etc etc yet a building can fall apart with mild to severe weather

reply

Your post is as ridiculous as the scene. If you had every pushed over a tree, and a building, you would know how wrong you are.

reply

You are the one is wrong

i work in construction and concrete and i know for a fact that a tree can with stand a lot more force then a house
a hurricane is far more deadly then a 10 ton safe

reply

No, I think it was just the tree hungers rooting for the tree.

:p

Trees (especially big ones) are stronger than buildings. Remember what they said in The Lord of the Rings:

"The trees grow tall, my Lord. Their roots go deep." ;)

reply

Indeed.
Try using a battering ram on a tree and a wall and see which one is left standing.
