rank, salary, and would the NYPD really allow this

Maybe this should be three separate posts but Jamie's promotion has me wondering.

From what I see at Wikipedia the rank of sergeant in the NYPD (and in most police forces) is a higher one than one of detective. So Jamie's promotion now has him outranking his older brother.

And while Danny's been on the force for much longer than Jamie it would be interesting to know which of the two now commands a higher salary.

Lastly we know for dramatic purposes we see the engaged couple now stationed at the same precinct. I have to wonder whether the NYPD would ever permit such a thing.

From what I found in a brief check, no a sergeant does not outrank a detective. That is because, at least in New York, a detective is not a rank, it is a designation. So a detective does not outrank a police officer nor does a police officer outrank a detective. That would depend on their individual rank.

In some corporations people get paid based on how much time they have spent with the company so that means it's possible to be on more money than the person who manages you. I am not sure how it works in the Police force though.

Not sure what the policy would be but I think it would be better not to have husband and wife work side by side at the same station.
