Anyone think Emily looked too young?

I know she's grown, but she has a such a small body and young face that I actually didn't want to see some of the scenes (which I guess was the point, but still).

Maybe I'm just nearing 30 and women her age are just looking really young to me, but now I feel like that guy Kevinology is going to start following me around.

what's really young? it's not like she looked 12.

so if she looked "old" it's ok?

inversely, if someone's legal age is 16 but looked 20, that makes it alright? but someone looked 16 but legal age is 20 is not?

reply

Don't judge a book by its cover, I've seen girls as young as 13 look about 20, and vice versa.

She looks her age to me but to many people she looks much younger and has a doll-like face. Her breasts are also small along with her body which helps with that allusion of looking a bit younger than her age. Some reviewers even pointed this out and said it kind of makes the movie seem even creepier that way. So I'm guessing that is one of the reasons the filmmaker chose Emily (in addition to her acting talent). If you had gone with someone like Emma Stone who looks a bit more 'mature' or someone very tall like Mia Wasikowska, it would probably come across very differently.

I thought Mia was tall as well, but she's actually only an inch or two taller than Emily.

Watching her body really like watching a child.

I think she looked about the right age.

reply

i think you have a point. I'm close to her age and my wife is exactly her age (22) and my wife has younger sisters and all of them look more physically developed than emily. I have a sister that is 12 and emily and her look to be developed about the same

it didn't help that the movie also went out of it's way to make sure she was the smallest, waifest looking woman in the movie. Every other woman in this movie is at least 6" taller than her and fully developed.

Emily's very pretty but it's really hard to see her play sexual roles because she does have the body of a young girl and anytime I see her in roles like this I have to wonder what the director's p0rn collection looks like

If you don't think emily looks 12 then you need to go to a public pool sometime.... actually maybe you shouldn't, don't want you looking at 12 yr olds thinking they're 22 and doing something you shouldn't

So... you're saying that petite adult females shouldn't have any sexuality, and anyone attracted to them is a pedophile?

Yeah, that's not offensive at all...

"Developed"? I assure you that she is fully developed, and is not going to grow any taller or bustier.

The director's a woman, but who's to say she doesn't have p0rn.

She's ruined my wedding. I will not look at her.

reply

No way does her body look 12 unless you are talking about a highly developed 12 year-old. In fact she has a build very similar to my wife who is much older (though she still looks great for her age!).

The only thing that makes Emily look young is her height and her baby face, not her build. I think she actually looks older in this picture than "Sucker Punch" where they used gimicks like pigtails and a schoolgirl-like outfit to make her look younger. Once you see her in this picture in underwear or less you really she looks at least college-age (which is what she is). She certainly isn't a skinny waif like Kate Moss was in the 90's (though I not saying Emily is fat either).

The book was based on a japanese book about sleeping girl prostitution, and since half of all japanese men are paedophiles(not child abusers) I think casting someone with the body of Emily in the role was intentional.

They wanted a woman with a childlike body, not fully sexually mature. The reason being probably to further enable her clients to 'imprint' their fantasies on her, which you can't do on a fully mature female body, as it's too gendered.

reply

since half of all japanese men are paedophiles

That's a pretty bold statement. If I wasn't 1/2 Japanese, I think I'd be inclined to kick your ass. But since i'm only half and not a pedophile, I'd still say that's a pretty bold statement and curious to know where you got that info. I'll assume you're white. I could say that 1/2 the white women walk around outside without shoes. This is pretty much a fact. Even my white wife would agree with this. The point of me saying that is that it's ignorant to make such a comment. Come on man.

Alright I take it back, seems they are doing something about the popularity of child pornography in japan.

reply

lolicon is not child pornography. it's hentai anime and manga with little girls. no real girls are used for creating it, so there's nothing wrong with it.

Why do you say that about Japanese men? Just because a man prefers slender, petite women does not make him a pedophile. I know a lot of men who prefer women like that but they would be disgusted at the thought of sexual contact with any child.

reply

You mean half of all Japanese men are honest. In America, and other Western countries, we call sexually mature females that are not sufficiently degraded by the passage of time "children", and any healthy man who looks at them with lust in his eyes a "pedophile", which, frankly, minimizes the seriousness of true pedophilia.

reply

She looks like she had sex with 500 guys in her life. I dont understand why you would cast someone like her as anything but a prostitute/slut, it is just not credible.

She was appropriate to the part.
