'House of Sleeping Beauties' and 'The Room'
I believe this movie was LOOSELY based on a Japanese novel I've yet to track down. Which may be why it's seems much more LITERARY than sexually fetishistic (if that's a word).
There were two earlier, probably more faithful film versions of the novel. The 2006 German "House of Sleeping Beauties" is very much like this, but told from the POV of an older gentleman who frequents a place like this. It's probably not as accessible to women or young people, and it doesn't feature the ethereal beauty of Emily Browning, but it does have some good acting from German thespians Maxmillian Schell and Angela Winkler.
There was also an earlier Japanese version called "The Room" (not be confused with the stupid Tommy Wiseau "cult" movie) by the notorious Japanese "pink" director of such wonderful-sounding films as "Lolita Vibrator Torture". Rather tastelessly the director gave a small part in that to a real-life cannibal/killer who murdered and partially ate a Dutch coed in Paris, but was unaccountably released from a French asylum and even more unaccountably became somewhat of a ghoulish celebrity in Japan! I might download that for free someday if I get a chance, but I really don't want to give people like that my money for obvious reasons. . .
